A fascinating fully aquatic salamander known for its feathery external gills, wide smile, and remarkable ability to regenerate limbs. Axolotls come in a variety of beautiful colors, including wild type, leucistic pink, golden albino, and melanoid. Their unusual appearance and curious personalities make them an interesting addition to a dedicated cool-water aquarium.

Max Size: ~9–12"

Minimum Aquarium Size: 29 gallons for one adult, with a larger footprint preferred

Temperature: 60–68°F, ideally 60–65°F

Diet: Earthworms, quality sinking axolotl pellets, blackworms, and other appropriate meaty foods.

Important: Requires cool, clean, fully cycled water with gentle flow. Best housed alone rather than with tropical fish. Fine sand or bare-bottom setups are preferred; avoid gravel that could be swallowed.
