Care Level: Easy to Moderate
Reef Safe: No – Not Recommended for Reef Aquariums
The Banana Wrasse, also known as the Sunset Wrasse, is a colorful and highly active saltwater fish prized for its brilliant yellow coloration and energetic personality. Females and juveniles are predominantly yellow, while mature males develop striking combinations of green, blue, pink, and orange.
This hardy wrasse is constantly on the move, exploring rockwork and hunting small invertebrates. Its natural feeding behavior may help control nuisance pests such as bristleworms, but it can also consume ornamental shrimp, crabs, snails, and other desirable invertebrates.
Best suited for spacious fish-only aquariums with secure rockwork, plenty of swimming space, and a soft sand bed for nighttime shelter. A tightly fitted aquarium lid is essential, as Banana Wrasses are excellent jumpers.
Diet:
Frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, chopped krill, clam, squid, quality marine flakes and pellets. Offer a varied diet of meaty marine foods.
