Maximum Length: About 4–5 inches (balloon varieties stay smaller and rounder than standard Green Texas)
Favorite Things: Warm, clean water and aquariums with sturdy décor like driftwood, stones, and plenty of open swimming space. The Balloon Green Texas is a selectively bred variant known for its rounded "balloon" body shape and shimmering green spangling. Their pearly spots glow under bright lighting, making them eye-catching centerpieces.
They thrive on high-quality pellets, spirulina flakes, frozen foods, and color-enhancing diets to bring out their metallic greens and blues.
Best Buddies: Best with semi-aggressive cichlids such as firemouths, severums, larger acaras, geophagus, rainbow cichlids, and similar species. Avoid tiny fish and very aggressive Central American cichlids. Balloon morphs are generally less aggressive than wild-type Green Texas.
