Name: Kenyi Mbuna
Scientific Name: Maylandia lombardoi (formerly Pseudotropheus lombardoi)
Maximum Length: About 5 inches
Favorite Things: Rocky Malawi environments with caves, shelves, and plenty of line-of-sight breaks. The Kenyi Mbuna is known for its striking sexual dimorphism:
-
Males turn a bold solid golden-yellow as they mature, often with faint barring.
-
Females and juveniles are blue with dark vertical bars, giving them a completely different appearance.
This dramatic color shift makes the species highly desirable in Malawi displays. Feed a herbivore-focused diet of spirulina flakes, algae wafers, and quality cichlid pellets.
Best Buddies: Works best with other robust Mbuna. Keep in a well-stocked Malawi tank to spread out aggression. Avoid peaceful community fish or soft-water species.
