Name: Msobo Mbuna
Scientific Name: Pseudotropheus (or Chindongo) msobo “Magunga”
Maximum Length: About 4–5 inches
Favorite Things: Rocky Malawi setups with caves, shelves, and tight hiding spaces. The Msobo Mbuna is famous for its dramatic sexual dimorphism:
-
Males turn a brilliant electric blue or violet-blue with darker barring.
-
Females remain a striking, solid sunset orange/yellow, sometimes with faint markings.
This creates a stunning contrast when kept in proper groups. Feed a high-vegetable diet (spirulina flakes, algae wafers, cichlid pellets) to keep digestion healthy and colors vibrant.
Best Buddies: Ideal with other Mbuna of similar temperament such as zebras, labs, and rusties. Best in heavily stocked Malawi tanks to diffuse aggression. Not recommended for peaceful community setups.
