Maximum Length: Up to 12–16 inches (30–40 cm), though usually around 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) in home aquariums for many years
Favorite Things: Being in groups (they’re social!), caves and hiding spots, sandy substrate, dim lighting, and a diet of sinking pellets, bloodworms, snails, and blanched vegetables
Best Buddies: Peaceful community fish like tetras, rainbowfish, gouramis, and other non-aggressive species; they thrive in schools of 5 or more of their own kind
