Blood Red Fire Shrimp – Saltwater Cleaner Shrimp

Other Common Names: Fire Shrimp, Blood Shrimp, Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, Blood Red Cleaner Shrimp

Origin: South Asia / Indo-Pacific
Size: Medium
Care Level: Easy to Moderate
Reef Safe: Yes
Temperament: Peaceful, occasionally territorial toward other shrimp
Maximum Size: Approximately 2–3 inches

The Blood Red Fire Shrimp is one of the most striking ornamental shrimp available for saltwater aquariums. Featuring a brilliant deep-red body, bright white markings, and long white antennae, this beautiful shrimp adds an impressive splash of color to established reef displays.

Fire Shrimp are members of the cleaner shrimp family and may establish cleaning stations where fish occasionally approach to have dead tissue and external debris removed. Cleaning behavior varies between individuals and should not be relied upon as a treatment for fish parasites.

Although generally peaceful, Fire Shrimp are often shy when first introduced and prefer shaded areas beneath rock ledges or inside caves. With time, many become more comfortable venturing into the open, especially during feeding.

They are generally safe with corals and peaceful reef fish, making them excellent additions to established saltwater aquariums.

Aquarium Requirements:

  • Established saltwater aquarium with stable parameters

  • Live rock with caves and shaded hiding places

  • Peaceful tankmates that will not prey on shrimp

  • Stable salinity and careful acclimation

  • No copper-based medications

Diet: Omnivorous scavenger. Feed frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped marine foods, sinking marine pellets, and other appropriately sized meaty foods.

Important: Like other marine shrimp, Fire Shrimp are sensitive to sudden salinity changes and copper exposure. Acclimate carefully, and provide sufficient hiding places during molting.
