IceCap 100 GPD 4-Stage RO/DI Water Filtration System
The IceCap 100 GPD RO/DI System is a complete four-stage water purification system designed to produce high-purity water for freshwater, saltwater, and reef aquariums. Combining sediment filtration, carbon filtration, a high-quality Dow FilmTec reverse osmosis membrane, and a final deionization stage, the system removes up to 99% of impurities from tap water and provides aquarium keepers with a clean, consistent starting point for mixing saltwater, topping off evaporation, and performing water changes.
Rated for production of up to 100 gallons per day, this system is an excellent choice for hobbyists who need more water production than a standard 50–75 GPD RO/DI system while maintaining a compact footprint.
Four-Stage Filtration
Stage 1 – 5 Micron Sediment Filter
The polypropylene sediment pre-filter removes suspended particles and debris from the incoming water before they can reach the carbon filter or RO membrane. Removing sediment at this stage helps protect the remaining filtration components and maintain proper water flow.Stage 2 – 5 Micron Carbon Block
The carbon block reduces chlorine, organic contaminants, and other compounds that can damage the RO membrane. This stage is particularly important for extending membrane life and preparing municipal tap water for reverse osmosis filtration.Stage 3 – 100 GPD Dow FilmTec RO Membrane
At the heart of the system is a Dow FilmTec TW30-1812-100HP reverse osmosis membrane. The membrane removes approximately 96–98% of dissolved salts under specified operating conditions, along with the majority of heavy metals and other dissolved contaminants present in the source water.Stage 4 – Refillable Deionization Cartridge
Water leaving the RO membrane passes through a final DI stage containing high-capacity color-changing mixed-bed DI resin. The DI resin removes the remaining dissolved ions that pass through the RO membrane, providing the final polishing stage for extremely low-TDS aquarium water.Built-In Pressure Gauge
A glycerin-filled pressure gauge makes it easy to monitor operating pressure and system performance. Proper pressure is important for both RO membrane rejection and water production. A noticeable decrease in operating pressure can also help identify when sediment or carbon pre-filters are becoming restricted and require replacement.
Manual Membrane Flush Valve
An integrated manual flush valve allows increased water flow across the RO membrane to help remove accumulated deposits. Periodically flushing the membrane can help maintain performance and extend its useful service life.
IceCap recommends flushing the membrane for approximately 1–2 minutes before and after use, or periodically during normal operation.
Refillable Color-Changing DI Resin
Unlike systems that require disposal of an entire proprietary DI cartridge, the IceCap uses a refillable DI cartridge. Once the resin is exhausted, the cartridge can be opened, refilled with fresh DI resin, and reused.
The color-changing resin also provides a convenient visual indication of resin exhaustion. For best results, a TDS meter should be used to verify final product-water quality.
Standard-Sized Replacement Filters
The system uses standard 10-inch filter canisters, standard replacement cartridges, and 1/4-inch RO tubing and push-connect fittings. This makes routine maintenance simple and provides flexibility when selecting replacement sediment, carbon, and DI filtration media.
No Electricity Required
The standard IceCap 100 GPD RO/DI system operates entirely from household water pressure and does not require electricity. For best performance, adequate incoming water pressure is required. Homes with low water pressure may benefit from adding an RO booster pump.

Recommended Operating Conditions
RO membrane production is heavily affected by water pressure, water temperature, and source-water TDS. The 100 GPD rating represents production under the membrane's specified test conditions and should not be interpreted as guaranteed production under every household water condition.
For best performance, maintain adequate feed pressure and replace pre-filters as needed. Low incoming pressure can reduce purified-water production, increase wastewater production, and reduce membrane efficiency. A booster pump can be added when source pressure is insufficient.
Maintenance
Sediment and carbon filters should generally be replaced approximately every 4–8 months, depending on source-water quality and usage. IceCap recommends replacing the carbon block at the same time as the sediment filter.
The DI resin should be replaced when exhausted. A noticeable increase in final product-water TDS indicates that the DI resin is no longer effectively removing the remaining dissolved ions.
The RO membrane typically provides approximately 2–3 years of service, although actual membrane life varies considerably with source-water quality, pre-filter maintenance, operating pressure, and system usage.
Regularly flushing the RO membrane and replacing pre-filters before they become exhausted can significantly improve overall system performance and membrane life.
